Only one theme park could successfully compete with Disneyland for the affection of L.A. tourists and Universal has to be it. Acting as both a working film studio and a theme park it is the largest of its kind in the world. If you are a film buff this is sure to delight. You are given the opportunity to go on a Studio Tour where you get to see back lot streets and various special effects demonstrations. The secrets behind the effects for such films as "Peter Pan" and "Seabiscuit" are revealed, and if you are really lucky you might even sneak a peak at an upcoming production. For those visiting for the thrilling rides, you won't be disappointed either. All have a movie theme and the rides are regularly updated so the newest blockbusters can be featured. Right now Revenge of the Mummy, inspired by the Mummy movies, is extremely popular. You can also experience a 19th century haunted house with a difference in Van Helsing: Fortress Dracula. Other films which in some way feature the park are "Shrek", "Terminator", "Back to the Future", "Waterworld" and, of course, "Jurassic Park". As with any popular theme park, queues can sometimes be a problem during peak times. One way to get around this is to purchase a Front of Line Pass. For approximately $90 this ticket allows you to go straight to the front of the line on all rides and to get front row seats at all shows. Well worth a visit. |
